What is a winter solstice?

During this time, the sun is at its lowest point in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. This means the Northern Hemisphere is tilted farthest away from the sun, which produces the shortest day of the year. After the winter solstice, the Northern Hemisphere starts to tilt towards the sun again, which is why the days get longer.

Spiritually, the Winter Solstice is a suitable time to recognize the hardships one has overcome, while releasing negative energy and celebrating the things in life that truly bring joy.  It is also a suitable time to practice rituals that celebrate the optimistic points in one’s life. Celebrate the change of the seasons with rituals that recognize the symmetry of lifestyles and the natural flow of the Earth. Looking back on ancestral history and re-discovering one’s ancestors, are also celebrated during this period, aka the Yule season in ancient times.
