The Magician Tarot Cards

We have begun our in depth exploration of the Major arcana. If you are just now joining us make sure to go back and start at the beginning of our series for the best understanding. The Magician is the next card of the Major Arcana following the Fool. It is numbered as card #1, the number of new beginnings.

The card

The Magician stands with one arm stretched upwards towards the Heavens, and the other pointing down to the earth. His positioning represents his connection between the spiritual realms and the material realms. The Magician’s robe is white, symbolizing purity, and his cloak is red, representing worldly experience and knowledge. On the table in front of him are the four symbols of the minor arcana suits, each symbolizing one of the four elements. It is also a sign that he has all the tools he needs to manifest his intentions into being. Above his head is the infinity symbol, and around his waist is a snake biting its own tail. Both of these are to show that he has access to unlimited potential. And in the foreground is an array of vegetation, symbolizing the blossoming and fruition of his ideas and aspirations.

Interpretations

When drawn upright The Magician represents pure willpower, diplomacy, manifestation, resourcefulness, power, and inspired action. When reversed he is deceptive, indicating manipulation, poor planning, and untapped talents.

Impact on the fool’s journey

The Magician is The Fool’s teacher and sparks their inquisitive nature. When drawn together you should keep “as above so below” in mind, create your inner world and the outer will follow.

Understanding the zodiac signs explained

Most people are familiar with their Sun sign. When asked what their zodiac is this is what they will respond with, however it is important to thoroughly analyze the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant (or Rising sign) of any horoscope. If you’ve ever felt disconnected to the characteristics of your “sign,” these may explain why.

What is your Sun sign?

The Sun sign is the most well-known of the zodiac signs. It represents your basic essence and vitality. It’s how you experience your ego, and the traits in your Sun sign speak to qualities you’re learning to embody. It is calculated by figuring out in what zodiac sign, exactly, the sun was situated in when someone was born.

What is your Moon sign?

The Moon sign is the darker side of your personality, it represents your emotional nature and the feeling instinct. It’s how you experience nourishment and safety. It is what you need to feel fulfilled. This is the you that you hear inside your head whenever you think, your heart, your emotions, your feelings. You need to know your birth time in order to determine your Moon sign.

What is your Rising sign?

The Rising sign, or your Ascendant, is the “you” that you consciously present to the world. It reveals the qualities you most visibly show to others upon first impression. While the rising sign is definitely not the entire story, it does provide significant information about how you approach your world.

We cannot be boiled down to one sign, one simple horoscope. To get a full understanding of your horoscope you will need to combine all three of your signs. We have many skilled astrologists who can help you map them all out and explain how they all correspond to each other.

The four Elements in Astrology

There are four elements in astrology: fire, earth, air, and water. Each of the 12 signs is grouped into one of the four elements, so three signs are ruled by the same element. Together, they form the natural world, so each is in some way dependent on the other. But what does that mean for you? Read on to find out what you need to know about each of the four elements.

When analyzing a chart, your Sun sign and its corresponding element are not the only aspects to consider when determining your dominant element. Take into account the placement of the other planets in your natal chart to help determine your dominant element.  How the are signs grouped:

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Fire Signs

Fire signs are associated with summer when the weather is hot and dry. They represent action, emotion, creativity and drive. These signs are independent and do not like to sit still. However, they must be wary about burning out from so much activity. You can connect with your element by meditating near a source of heat or flame, or even just spending time out under the Sun.

Earth Signs

Earth signs are associated with autumn or fall when the weather is cold and dry. They represent substance, pragmatism, reason, and realist thinking. They are wise and love to serve others in times of need. But Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo need to be careful about being overly logical or letting their minds create a different version of events and situations. You can connect with your element by connecting with nature. You can practice grounding by walking barefoot outside, or simply add a few houseplants to your home.

Air Signs

Air signs are associated with spring when the weather is hot and wet. They represent duality, intelligence, openness, and ethereal thinking. Gemini, Leo, and Aquarius need to be wary of their innate commitment issues. Connecting with your element can be as simple as letting the wind blow across your face or lighting incense and tracing the smoke through the air.

Water Signs

Cutting spiritual cords

Preforming a cord cutting ritual can be done at any time, but with the extra activity of the cosmos this month it is a perfect time to preform the ritual, especially as we are heading into a new year. There is no reason not to release yourself from things that may be holding you back. If you are unsure how to preform a cord cutting ritual read on and you will be ready to free yourself from unwanted spiritual ties.

Create a sacred space

You don’t need a full altar of magical tools to do this, but lighting some candles is recommended as part of your ritual. Doing so allows you to honor the element of air and harness its powers.

Write down your intentions

Maybe you’re releasing toxic exes, pre-holiday work stress, negative self-talk, or those black yoga pants you’ve only taken off long enough to wash since lockdowns began. Whatever is energetically getting in your way and making you feel less than, write it down and release it.

Connect with your Breath

Take three to five minutes to connect with your breath. Go in through the nose for four counts, hold for six counts, and breathe out through the mouth for eight counts. When you inhale, call air into your stomach and chest, and on the exhale, visualize what you are releasing. Feel free to repeat for another three to five minutes.

Verbally sever them

Use your voice to speak up for yourself and free you of anything holding you back. “I, [your name], declare to cut and remove all cords, oaths, contracts, promises and karmic ties, across all planes of time, across all dimensions and past lives that do not serve my highest good for this lifetime. I declare that any of these soul imprints what are not beneficial for my highest power become dissolved immediately into a space of love. Thank you.” Repeat this until you feel sufficiently unburdened.”

We hope this will help you head into the new year freed of anything that may be holding you back.
