Chronesthesia: Conscious of the past, present, and future

The first processes of chronesthesia are those that determine the contents of any act of mentally traveling, what happens, who, where, etc. Consider it like watching a movie in the mind’s eye. The second processes are those that determine the subjective moment of time in which the action takes place, be it past, present or future. Chronesthesia is defined by scientists as the brain’s ability to be conscious of the past, present, and future. It is the awareness of subjective time. Essentially it is one’s ability to not only travel backward in memories, but also forward into future events mentally.

Chronesthesia deals specifically with episodic memory, which is time related. It is commonly held as fact that recalling past events is necessary to predict and anticipate future events. Imaging research has shown that this type of mental travel involves the prefrontal cortex, the same region as the third eye, in addition to the other higher thinking sections of the brain. Using this ability to access future events is like “remembering” the future.

Chronesthesia is like all other abilities. It is a learned ability, however this ability has not been found in animals and young children. Unlike other psychic abilities chronesthesia is a form of survival adaptation. It enables people to continuously update information necessary for survival. This type of mental time travel can help to distinguish friends from enemies, and can help semantic memories by attaching personal stories to make them plausible.

While it is important to work on strengthening your psychic abilities, strengthening your 5 senses and other abilities like chronesthesia is just as important. The future in flexible, using chronesthesia to remember the future, can help you imagine a different more desired outcome and but that result into action.
